High frequency ventilation and design of supplementary units to control the heat and humidification of the inspired air

Abstract

This study encompasses the entire aspects of the HighFrequency Ventilation (HFV) in three categories;a) HFPPF (High Frequency Positive Pressure Ventilation)b) HFJV (High Frequency Jet Ventilation)c) HFO (High Frequency Oscillation)These categories will be, separately, investigated interms of their experimental results and the clinical applications.The consequences of the studies performed in severallabs and, hospitals, allover the world, will comparativelybe presented.Some special ventilators developed will be shown inthe study, explairiing the technical considerations and clinicapplications.The last chapter of the thesis involves the design andfuction of the supplementary units of a high-frequency jetventilator, currently in use at Cerrahpa9a Hospital. Thedevice, including heater and humidifier and the control units,will be used on the patients in the intensive care, to eliminatethe discomforting effects of the cold air and the possibilityof damaging the lung tissue with dry air.
