Application of GERT simulation in the planning and control of the new product planning process

Abstract

In this thes~5, new product development process isbriefly discussed and the importance and advantages of GERTSimulation in the planning and control of new productdevelopment process is investigated. A GERT Simulation Modelof the new product development process 6f Turkiye Sise CamFab. A. S. is developed and applied to the BORCAM project. ofthe company, and the results are discussed. Random numbers aregenerated for each simulation by the GERT program. The resultsshow that the feasibili t.y considerations of the BORCAM project.will take 100 days and 6 million TL. In the average, it willtake about 750 days and 570 million TL. for the project tosuccesfully develop. The probability of success lS 86 per cent,after the feasibility stage and 51 per cent for the overallprocess. Due tothe time delays, modification of the newproduct development process at market research and marketingprogram developing stages may lead to better results. Besidesutilizing the developed, for planning the project, Sise Cammay use it also for controlling the project for keeping it onschedule as well as inside budget.
