Survey for a source book on psychological tests used in Turkey

Abstract

- VI - Ö Z E T Bu çalışma, Türkiye5 de halen kullanılmakta olan psiko lojik testler hakkında bilgi vermek üzere düzenlendi. Yedinci Psikolojik Ölçme Yıllığı (Mental Measurement Year-Book) (1972)'nin örnek alındığı çalışmamızda şunlar amaçlandı: 1) Türkiye'de kullanılan çeşitli psikolojik testlerin bir dökümünü çıkarmak, 2) Test kullanan bireyleri testlerin geçerlik, güvenirlik, standardizasyon ve normlar gibi psikometrik özellikleri ve testlerin sınırlılıkları konusunda bilgilendirmek, 3) Testlerin geliştirilmesi, kullanımı ve geçerliği hakkında kaynak sağlamak, 4) Test kullananlara testlerin değerleri ve sınırlılıkları hakkında bilgi vermek suretiyle uygulamaların da dikkatli ve duyarlı olmalarına rehberlik etmek, 5) Test geliştirmeyle ilgili araştırmaları.teşvik etmek, 6) Meslekdaşları birbirlerinin testlerle ilgili çalışmalarından haber dar ederek iletişimi kolaylaştırmak. Ülkemizde kullanılan psikolojik testler konusunda, veriler üç büyük şehrimiz olan İstanbul-, Ankara ve İzmir'deki 27 kurumdan (üniversitelerin ilgili bölümleri ve Rehberlik ve Araştırma merkezleri) toplandı» Yeri kaynakları, araştırmacı tarafından hazırlanan bir anket ile akademik tez ve yayınların taranması idi. Geliştirilen anket, örneklenen üç ilde test kullandığı bilinen 47 psikolog ve eğitimciye görüşme yolu ile uygulandı, îkiyüzaltmişdokuz yüksek lisans, doktora ve doçentlik tezi, 12 kurumun toplam 22 bölümünden elde edildi. Psikolojik testler konusundaki yayınlar tarandı. Bunlardan 220 tanesi 59 dergiden toplanan makale ve bildiri; 12 tanesi ise kitaptı. Bu yolla toplanan 164 psikolojik testin 36 tanesinin Tür- kiye9de geliştirilmiş, 60 tanesinin türkçeye uyarlanmış, 68- vıı - tanesinin ise sadece türkçeye çevrilmiş olduğu saptandı. Elde edilen testler, Anastasi ' nin (1976) sınıflandırma sistemi örnek: alınarak, 'genel zekâ testleri8, 'özel beceri testleri' ve 'kişilik testleri' olmak üzere üç genel başlık altında toplandı. `Genel zekâ testleri' başlığı altında toplanan 25 testten, 12 tanesi bireysel zekâ testi, 8 tanesi grup zekâ testi ve 5 tanesi ise gelişim ölçeğidir. 45 testten oluşan 'özel beceri testleri' kategorisi, altı tane çeşitli özel yetenek testini, 13 eğitim testini, 4 meslekî testi ve 22 psikomotor ve klinik testi90 içermektedir. testten oluşan 'kişilik testleri' grubunda ise 63 kişilik envanter ve testi, 10 projektif test ve 17 ilgi ve tutum envanteri vardır. Toplanan veriler,, 1) Türkiye'de geliştirilen testler, 2) Türkçeye uyarlanan testler ve 3) Türkçeye çevrilen testler başlığı altında sınıflandırıldı. Testler hakkındaki bilgiler verilirken Yedinci Psikolojik Ölçme Yıllığı (1972) ve Anastasi ' nin Psikolojik Testler (1976) adlı kitabından yararlanı larak hazırlanan beş bölümlük bir format kullanıldı. Bu bölümler 1) Genel Bilgi, 2) Testin Kısa Bir Tanıtımı» 3) Uygu lama İçin Pratik Bilgiler, 4) Teknik Değerlendirme, 5) Testin Türkiye'de Kullanıldığı Araştırma ve İlgili Yayınlar, Türkçe ye sadece çevirisi yapılmış olan testler için ilk iki ve son bölümdeki bilgiler verildi. Çeviri testlerin kullanıma henüz hazır olmadığı düşüncesiyle ve çevirilerin teknik değerlendirmeleri olmadığı için 3. ve 4. bölümdeki bilgiler verilemedi. Türkiye'de geliştirilen ya da türkçeye uyarlanan testler için tüm bölümlerdeki bilgiler verildi. Bu çalışmanın, test kullanan meslekdaşları testlerin kötü kullanımı konusunda duyarlı hale getireceğini ve onları test geliştirmede daha sistemli çalışmalara yönelteceğini umuyoruz. Ancak böylece psikolojik testlerin kullanımının insan davranışlarını değerlendirme ve sosyal bilimlere katkıda bulunma amacına ulaşabileceğine inanıyoruz.

- XXI ABSTRACT This study is designed to collect and classify informa tion on psychological test used in Turkey. The Seventh Mental Measurement Yearbook (1972) is taken as an example for this work, The objectives of the study are: 1) to provide information about tests used in Turkey, 2) to provide test users with information on the psychometric characteristics such as validity, reliability, standardization and norms, and the limitations of these tests, 3) to provide references on the construction and use of these tests, 4) to help test users develop an awareness of the values and limitations of tests, and to guide them in becoming sensitive, careful professional test users, 5) to stimulate further research in test development, and 6) to facilitate communication by making professionals aware of each other's work on tests. It is decided to obtain information from educational institutions, and other professional sources located in three big cities: naöely, Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir. Thus, a total of 27 institutions constituted the sample source of informa tion for this survey study. Data are collected by use of 1) a questionnaire developed for this survey by the project designer, and 2) the review of academic theses and publications. Questionnaires were taken to 47 psychologists and educators 'in person and administered through interviewing. Two hundred aad sixty nine masters, doctorate, and dochent- ship theses were reviewed in 22 departments- of 12 institu tions. Available published materials on psychological test were examined. Two hundred and twenty of these publications were journal articles obtained by reviewing 59 journals and- XV - 12 published materials. This way it was possible to collect data on 155 psychological tests. Of these 39 are original developments in Turkish, 64 are cross-cultural adaptations, 53 are translations. In classifying tests, Anastasi's (1976) system was adopted. This classification includes tests of general intellectual level, tests of separate abilities and tests of personality. The 'general intellectual tests' category, totalling to 25, includes 12 individual intelligence tests, eight group intelligence tests, and five developmental scales. The second category is tests of 'separate abilities' and consists of 45 tests. It includes six 'multiple aptitude tests%13 educational tests, four 'occupational tests', and 22 psycho motor and clinical tests'. The third category is 'personality tests' totalling to 90. This category includes 63 'personality inventories and tests', 10 'projective tests' and 17 'interest and attitude iaventories. These resulting information are organized under: 1) Tests which have been developed in Turkish, 2) Tests which have been adapted into Turkish, and 3) Tests which have been merely translated into Turkish. Each test is presented following a format. This format is developed using sources such as the.Seventh Mental Measurement Yearbook (1972) and Psychological Testing (Anastasi, 1976) as models. It has 5 sections: 1) General inf ornsation, 2) Brief description of the test, 3) Practical information about the application of the test, 4) Technical test characteristics, 5) Review of the theses and publications. For tests -which have been translated into Turkish, information on the first, second, and fifth sections of the format are given only. Information, about the application ofV - the test is omitted, because such tests are considered pre mature and are not ready yet for professional use. The fourth section is also omitted, as such data are not available. For tests which have been developed in or adapted to Turkish, all sections of the format are given. This study is hoped to sensitise the test users to an issue of the misuse of psychological tests, and to direct them toward sore systematic studies in test development. It is after then that psychological tests can be used as means to enhance human behavior and contribute to social sciences.
