T The present study is concerned with asessment and treatment of stuttering in young children aged 7 to 12 years. A comprehensive asessment strategy based on Costello and Inghams( 1985) technique was utilized. There were a total of 6 subjects ( 4 male, 2 female). One of the subjects was dropped out at the beginning of the treatment phase. The pre treatment asessment included three sessions of recordings of conversation and reading samples, under certain conditions ( conversing with the investigator, mother) at the clinic and one session at home( conversing with a playmate or sibling) Every subject was administered 4 conditions called probes'(e.g, rhytmic reading, prolongation). There were two treatment packages, one was the original treatment(A), the other was the adapted version of the first package (B). Three of the subjects were assigned to treatment A, disregarding the results of probes, Two of them were given treatment B, taking into account the results of probes. The results showed that those three subjects who were given treatment A.displayed relatively more definite improvement on stuttering than subjects given treatment B. VIen_US
