Ottoman modernization and the Beylerbeyi palace

Abstract

ÖZET Tezimin konusu `Osmanlı Modernleşme Hareketi ve Beylerbeyi Sarayı.` Modernleşmeyi doğuran sebepler, buna neden olan etkenler, gerçekleştiren padişahlar ana bölümü oluşturuyor. Beylerbeyi Sarayı'nın bulunduğu sahilin Osmanlı devrinden önce nasıl mimari olgulara şahit olduğunu araştırarak tezime başlıyorum. Ana bölümden sonra, modernleşmeden önce yapılmış olan eski Beylerbeyi Sarayını ve modernleşme etkisiyle eskisinin yerine yapılan yeni Beylerbeyi Sarayını inceleyeceğim, Eski saray zamanında yapılmış olan ve şimdi mevcut olan saray köşklerini de inceleyeceğim. Mimarı ve sanat tarihçilerinin bu konudaki görüşlerinden sonra, tezim kendi görüşümü belirterek son bulacak.

TV ABSTRACT The subject of this master thesis is `Ottoman Modernization and Beylerbeyi Palace.` I begin with a study of the architectural history of the shore of Beyler beyi Palace before the Ottoman era. In fact, there are only a few remnants extant as will become clear in the first part of the development of this paper. The concern of this thesis has to do with the modernization movement. Here will be discussed the reasons which caused this movement, the sultans responsible for it and the conditions under which it emerged. Following this, the former and new Beylerbeyi Palaces; their architecture and the kiosks of the palace shall be analysed. In the last chapter the architectural historical evaluation and interpretation of the subject by art historians will be expounded.
