dc.description.abstractABSTRACT The County of Yalvaç where the study was performed, is in the Antalya part of Akdeniz (Mediterranean) Region. It is bounded to the city of İsparta governmentally and it is 1 05 km away from the city centre. The county is surrounded by the counties of Çay and Sultandağı from north, by Senirkent from west, by Şarkikaraağaç and Gelendost from south and by Akşehir from east. The total area of the city is 1,415 km2. The latitude of Yalvaç is 38° north and longitude is 31° 10` east. The county is surrounded by Sultan Mountains from north and east. Sultan Mountains consist of metamorphic rocks of Ordovisien-Permien structure and carbonated rocks (Trias-Kretase). The Neogen pack, which shows a wide spread in the region, is represented by clay, marn and limestone. Alluvial material is seen in valleys and river beds. The plains of Hoyran and Yalvaç are productive plains. The climate of the county is dry with low humidity, isfirst degree mesothermal, has excess water in winter and is similar to sea-side conditions. The population has an increasing trend. The population which was 33,213 in 1935 in whole county, has increased to 88.594 in 1997. The increase rate is 166.7 %. The population of the county centre, which was 8,347 in 1935, has increased to 34,586 in 1997, with an increase rate of 314,4 %. There are 13 towns and 25 villages in the county and there are 18 wards in the county centre. Fourty-one % of the total lands in the county are used as agricultural soil. The percentage of dry-agriculture is 34 % and that of wet-agriculture is 7 %. Cereal production is common with a rate of 68.5 %. This rate in the county centre is 55.4 %. Sheep breeding is prominent in cattle-dealing. The industrial activities in Yalvaç is in the form of `workshop-type industry`. The most important industrial activity is `leather production`. A part of the working population works in `serving sector`. Yalvaç is one of our developing counties in tourism sector. Remnants of the ancient city of `Psidia Antiocheia` help a lot in the development of belief tourism. 16en_US
