dc.description.abstract19 - SUMMARY The effect of acute and chronic administration on the activity of (Na +K )-ATPase in brain homogenates was inves tigated. 1- Ethanol (4.5 g/kg body wt/day) was injected intra- peritoneally at 09.00 hr and 18.00 hr (acute treatment). 16 hr after the last injection the mice were killed and (Na +K )-ATPase activities of the brain homogenates were determined. A statistically significant decrease was observed compared to controls treated with saline similarly. The decrease was found to be 14.8%. 2- Ethanol (4.5 g/kg body wt/day) was injected intra- peritoneally at 09.00 hr and 18.00 hr for seven days (chronic treatment). 16 hr after the last injection, the mice were killed and (Na +K )-ATPase activities of the brain homogena tes were determined. The activity of (Na +K )-ATPase was found to be decreased significantly compared to controls. This decrease was 46.5%.en_US
