B - Summary Result and Proposals One hundred rowers who are members of Rowing Clubs activating in Turkey were examined about their psycholo gical nature, self-concept and features of personality. As a result of this research, it has been established that their psychological nature changes before or during the competition in accordance with sex, experience and level of success. The female rowers in Turkey who are not trained seriously by trainers face with difficulty because of their physical in efficiency. The competition becames injury and leaves a certain harm in their mind affecting their physical performance badly for their future competitions. All of the rowers who are experienced or unexperienced, successful or unsuccessful are full with the same spirit of being sucessful before the competition, but unexperienced rowers are more influenced with the events happen during the competition. In some analyses done in other parts of this research, it has been found that the rowers are known by coaches and friends in the team except same specifications. But when we examine the answers one by one we see that there are some negligible differences which are not important for statistics about coach athlete part. Athletes believe that they are not known well by their coaches to some extent, because there is inadequacy of communi cation between trainer and athlete. Coaches' influence on a athlete is considerable although the athlete is an adult when he or she first meets coach. Good relationships have important influence on one's personality. Playing a sport is one of the most important experiences in a athlete's life coach is one of the greatest factor on athlete's personality because coach has important influence on athlete's sport life and both spend most of their time together. - 129 -A coach influence on a athlete can be both positive or negative just like teacher's. But in contrast with many teacher-student relations, coach-athlete relation is close. They both spend so much energy and time for sport 0 Therefore, it must not be surprising to see that a coach has more influence on athlete more than his or her teacher. The closer relation ship between two person is the more possiblity of one's influence on the other. A bad coach may have bad influence on team members as a inadequate example. A coach's sentimental instabilities and illogical behaviours can threaten the growing up of athlete's personality. Coaches greed only for success who is not coring about athletes feelings can have the same effect on weak athletes Yong people take some adult a model if they appreciate and respect them. So a good coach can help and give lots of good features to athlete. Therefore, he can became a guide- consultant for a athlete. But he should be close with athlete and try to know him or her better. It has been resulted that the differences in the part which we examined their features of personalities, self-concepts, is connected with sex, experience and level of success. The career of a athlete is measured by being old or new athlete, and having success before or not. Those who are successful and old in the team use the all advantages of being superior against the other. Therefore the new athletes can be influenced concerning with their answers about their self-concepts. PROPOSAL As a result of this research, concerned people better pay attention to the following points. 1. This research is also about the variations in persona lities caused by sport. As a result of the experiences, we think or hope that the personality will change positively. Ogilve (1968) who did researchs about this sabject confirmed the correcthness of our idea. The advantages of experienced athlete against unexperienced one is confirming this idea, but Wernell and Gottheil (1966) agreed that playing a sport does not change personality and it has not got any influence on it. In future, if the research period is long like 3-4 years, it will be easier to establish whether athlete's personality and self concepts - 130 -will be change or not in this period, more clearly experience in rowing or any other sport has an influence on personality. 2. In next research, with the cooperation of cöâift&SS- of sport clubs which is participating to the research, the female rowers can be compared with the male rowers after the problem about in efficient attention and core to the female rowers during training is solved. 3. With the knowledge which can be supplied from connec tions with foreign countries will be usefull for comparesing Turkish rowers $ith foreign ones about subjects mentioned and for finding or correcting the in efficiencies of our rowers. 4. Many of the same kind researchs must be done for validity of this research and also for getting more correct result. - 13Î -en_US
