T This study has been prepared as a MSC in the app lied geology programme in the Science Institute of the S. D. ü. The study covers an area of about 56 km square around the sand-gravel quarry in the Atabey-Akçay stream and its surrounding areas. The rocks in the investigated area are divided into two main groups as allochthonous and aut oc h t h on ous. The oldest geological unit of the autochthonous rocks is the Early-Middle Eocene aged Kay ı köy formation. The formation consist of rhytmi t -i cal 1 y deposited mudsto- nes, sandstones and conglomerates. The 01 i go- Miocene aged Gönen conglomerates overlies the deposit of the Kayıköy formation. The deposits of these two formations have a la teral changes each other. The Gönen conglomerates mainly includes ill sorted limestone, sandstone and ophiolite pebble. The ophiolite melange and the Tinaztepe limestone overlie tectonically the Gönen conglomerates. The Atabey conglomerates, ' PI io-Quaternar'y in age, unconf ormab 'I y over lies the Tinaztepe limestone and have ill sorted, angular- pebbles which are in sand and. carbonate matrix. The bed ding is usually horizontal. The youngest unit in the area is allivium composed of loose sands, clays and gravels. The allochthonous geological units in the study area a,r& the Late Jurassic aged Tinaztepe limestone and Late Cretaceous aged Ophiolite melange. The Tinaztepe li mestone includes mi critic limestones and packstones, and overlies tectonically the Ophiolite melange. The Ophiolite melange consists of serpant i ni te, gabbro, diabase, chert, radyolar i t-e, sandstone and shale.. Limestone blocks can be found as a olistolithe within the melange. IVThe sand-gravel quarry in the Akçay stream is in vestigated, by dividing it into three main areas as A,B,C. It is determined that the A and B areas provide convinient material for concrete agregates after the investigation of agregates physical features. However, it is also determi ned that the C area do not provide convinient material for concrete agregates. The strength of the A and C areas increase when amount of cement is 350 kg. in the BS 16 concrete class. However the strength decrease when cement amount increase in the BS 25 concrete class. The strength of the B area increase when amount of cement increase in the BS 16 concrete class. But, the strength increase when amount of cement is 300 kg. in the BS 2 5 concrete class.
