Y In 89 patients admitted to the Ministry of Health, Ankara Hospital, Second Surgical Clinic with a diagnosis of acute appendicitis and who underwent an appendectomy, C. jejuni was studied clinically, intraoperatively, microbiologi- cally and histopathologically for its role in the etiolo gy of acute appendicitis. Microbiologically, while the urease activity, hippurate hydrolysis, microaerophilic and aerophilic cultures and the sensitivity to nalidixic acid were studied, the patients underwent clinical and intraoperative evaluation. Histopathologically, the hematoxylin-eosin and Warthin-Starry staining techniques were used. In the study, in 5 (5.61 %) of the 89 patients C. jejuni was determined. Thereby, it was attempted to put forth that C. jejuni could play a role in the etiolo gy of acute appendicitis. 42en_US
