Bilimsel argümantasyona dayalı etkinliklerin ortaokul 7.sınıf öğrencilerinin insan ve çevre ünitesindeki akademik başarılarına ve iklim değişimine yönelik farkındalıklarına etkisi

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı, `İnsan ve Çevre` ünitesinin öğretiminde argümantasyona dayalı öğretim yönteminin 7.sınıf öğrencilerinin akademik başarılarına, çevresel farkındalıklarına ve iklim değişimi farkındalıklarına etkisini incelemektir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu, 2016-2017 öğretim yılında Manisa ili Kula İlçesindeki bir ortaokulda öğrenim görmekte olan iki şubeden oluşan altmış yedinci sınıf öğrencisi oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmada ön test-son test kontrol gruplu, yarı deneysel desen seçilmiştir. Araştırma sürecinde İnsan ve Çevre Ünitesi Başarı Testi, Çevresel Farkındalık Anketi ve İklim Değişimi Farkındalık Anketi kullanılmış; uygulama aşamasında argümantasyona dayalı çalışma kağıtlarından yararlanılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde; deney grubu ve kontrol grubunu karşılaştırmak için gruplar arası karşılaştırmalarda kullanılan bağımsız örneklemler (independent samples) t-testi, deney ve kontrol grubunun kendi içlerindeki gelişimini görmek için eşleştirilmiş t-testi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada argümantasyona dayalı öğretim yönteminin öğrencilerin insan ve çevre ünitesine ilişkin akademik başarılarına olumlu ve anlamlı düzeyde etki yaptığı tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca öğrencilerin iklim değişimi farkındalığına ilişkin görüşlerinde hem deney grubu hem de kontrol grubu öğrencilerinin kendi içlerindeki ön test son test karşılaştırmalarında olumlu ve anlamlı bir fark belirlenmiştir.

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of argumentation-based learning process on the seventh grade students' academic achievement, environmental awareness and climate change awareness in the unit of `Human and Environment`. The participants in the study were sixty students in seventh grade studying in a secondary school in Kula district of Manisa in 2016-2017 academic year. In the study, a semi-experimental design technique with pre-test and post test matched control group design was employed. While Human and Environment Unit Achievement Test, Environmental Awareness Questionnaire and Climate Change Awareness Questionnaire were utilized in the research process, argumentation-based worksheets were used during the application phase. In the analysis of data, independent samples t test which compares the means for two independent groups were used to compare the experiment and control groups and paired sample t-test was used to examine the development of the experiment and control groups within themselves. The findings indicated that argumentation-based learning process had a positive and significant effect on the students' academic achievement in the '' human and environment'' unit. In addition, a positive and significant difference was found between the pre-test and post-test comparisons between the experimental group and the control group students in their views on climate change awareness.
