Deniz Harp Okulundaki öğrencilerin akademik durumlarını etkileyen faktörlerin çok değişkenli istatistik tekniklerle analizi

Abstract

ÖZET Bu araştırmada Deniz Harp Okulu'ndaki öğrencilerin başarı durumlarını etkileyen faktörler, çeşitli kademelerde farklı istatistik teknikler kullanılarak belirlenmeye çalışılmış tır. Eğitimde öğrencilerin performansını etkileyebileceği düşünülen tüm sosyokültürel, sosyo-ekonomik ve ölçülebildiği nispette psikolojik göstergeler araştırma değişkenleri olarak kapsama alınmıştır. Bu değişkenlere ilişkin verilerin elde edilmesinde, araştırma yöntemi olarak, öğrencilere uygulanan anket kullanılmıştır. Çok Değişkenli İstatistik Tekniklerin kullanım amaçlarmdan biri olan kovaryans yapılarının analizi için Temel Bileşenler ve Faktör Analizi, sınıflandırma ve gruplama tekniği olarak da Kümeleme (Cluster) ve Diskriminant Analizleri bilgisayar aracılığı ile uygulanmıştır. Tez, dört bölümden oluşmaktadır. İlk bölümde, araştırmanın amacı, eğitim alanında Çok Değişkenli İstatistik Tekniklerin kullanılarak yapıldığı bazı önemli çalışmalar ve Deniz Harp Okulu'nda öğrenci başarısını değerlendirme yöntemi sunulmuştur. İkinci bölümde, araştırmada kullanılan veriler, anketin hazırlanması ve kullanılan Çok Değişkenli İstatistik Tekniklerle ilgili kısaca bilgi verilmiştir. Üçüncü bölümde ise bu teknikler, toplanan verilere uygulanmış, elde edilen sonuçlar yalın bir şekilde yorumlanmıştır. Tezin sonunda ise araştırma bulgularının gözden geçirildiği ve genel bir değerlendirmenin yapıldığı sonuç bölümü yer almaktadır.

ABSTRACT In this study, the factors which influence the Turkish Naval Academy students' success are investigated by utilizing various different statistical methods at different levels. All possible factors which are thought to influence the students' performance, including socio-cultural, socio-economic and, as the level of measurement allows, the psychological factors are included as research variables. To obtain the data for these variables, surveying is utilized as research method. As one of the usage grounds of multivariate statistical techniques, the investigation of covariance structures is performed by Principal Components Analysis and Factor Analysis and as the grouping technique Cluster Analysis and Discriminant Analysis are performed by the help of computer. This thesis is composed of four sections. The first section, presents the objective of this study, discusses some major studies which investigated the educational performance by utilizing multivariate statistical techniques and a brief presentation of the current student performance evaluation of the Turkish Naval Academy. The second section, presents the data used, the construction of the data survey and a brief presentation of the utilized multivariate statistical techniques. In the third section, these multivariate statistical techniques are applied to the data gathered and the results obtained are breifly evaluated.In the last section, the findings of this research are fully reviewed and a general evaluation is presented.
