Sosyal bilgiler derslerinde sınıf içi demokrasi uygulamalarının incelenmesi

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı, Sosyal Bilgiler derslerinde öğretmenlerin sınıf içi demokrasi uygulamalarının neler olduğunu belirlemektir. Araştırmada nitel araştırma desenlerinden durum çalışması kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın verileri yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu ile toplanmıştır. 2014-2015 öğretim yılında Denizli il merkezinde bulunan altı ortaokulda gerçekleştirilen araştırmaya 20 Sosyal Bilgiler öğretmeni katılmıştır. Görüşmelerden elde edilen verilerin çözümlenmesinde betimsel analiz yaklaşımı kullanılmıştır.Araştırma, öğretmenlerin Sosyal Bilgiler derslerinde öğrencilerin derse katılımını sağlamada, sınıf kurallarının belirlenmesinde, öğrencilerin birbirlerine karşı hoşgörülü ve saygılı olmasını sağlamada, öğrencilerin sınıfta kendilerini ifade edebilmelerinde ve yıl boyunca sınıf içinde karşılaşılan problemleri çözmede demokratik bir sınıf ortamı oluşturdukları sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Bununla birlikte öğretmenlerin sınıfta disiplini sağlamada, öğrencilerin sınıf içinde grup etkinliklerine katılmalarında, ölçme araçlarıyla ilgili kararları almada yeterli demokratik bir sınıf ortamı oluşturamadıkları sonucuna varılmıştır.Anahtar Kelimeler: Sosyal Bilgiler, demokrasi, sınıf, durum çalışması

The objective of this study is to determine democratic practices of social studies teachers in their social studies courses. The study is based on a case study of qualitative research design. The data were collected through semi-structured face to face interviews. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with twenty social studies teachers working at the six secondary schools located in Denizli province in 2014-2015 academic year. The data were analyzed based on a descriptive approach.The research result indicated that social studies teachers create a democratic classroom environment in their social studies courses for their students in terms of students' participation in the course, the determination of class rule, the tolerance and respect of students to each other, the solving of a problem that students encountered in the classroom during the expressing themselves. On the other hand, the research result indicated that teachers could not create an adequate democratic atmosphere in the classroom in terms of providing the discipline, the participation of students in group activities and in playing a role in determining the evaluation process.Key Words: Social studies, democracy, class, case study
