dc.description.abstractIV S U II M ft R Turkish Republic has applied officially to European Community to become a member and has been continueing her efforts in this direction. From this point, in case a possible full membership, it is a necessity to establish the politics on the issue and the dimension of any possible troubles which migth occur beetween Turkish and European families which have differences in many ways. In this study, it's been tried to determine attitutes and behaviours of avarage Turkish family in individual and social rank, its role, influence and reaction, future, education, union as a society forming the seed of social construction in the process of Turkish Republic trying to join European Community. In the first part, some information has been given regarding family as a universal concept and theoretical background involving functions and originality. In the second part, present status of Turkish and European Community families have been compared and their similarites and differences have been tried to be determined. As known, the aim of sociologists is to understand human activities. This basically depends on area research insociological discipline. From this point, an area research has been performed in 24 different centres of Istanbul which is a megalopolis and available best sample city of Turkish mosaic. An area research has been conducted with 153 female, 681 male, and total 834 head of the family with face to face meeting. In this research two basic points have been tried to determine. The first one is, the general knowledge level of the subjects of the experiment about European Community. The secondhand the important one is the dimensions of the possible interaction between Turkish and European Community families. In this research, being the first in its area, 81 percent of the subjects of the experiment have got right judgement about what European Community is and where its center is. Besides, the views of the subjects of the experiment have been determined regarding foreign marriage, free entry to European Community countries, living there, and regarding the free entry and living of European Community citizens in Turkey with same condutions. Also it's been found out whether religious belief, family life and children cause obstacle to the thought of moving and dwelling in Community countries. Meanwhile, possible troubles in daily life that might occur because of living together with the European families have been stated and also the thoughts of the head of the families about the neighbourhood with European families, its advantages andVI disadvantages have been found out. Besides, the relations and problems between Turkish and European children which demands a great importance in daily life and their1 parents' attitutes and inclinations against these have been determined.en_US
