dc.description.abstractSUMMARY In the scope of our research; sociological foundations of tourism during the sociological transformation periods of urbanization parallel to mass tourism and communication which brings out Congress Tourism, is analysed with direct and indirect effects on economy, society and institutions. Evaluating all the facts and data.a model for the possible positive contribution of congress tourism to Türkiye during the socio economics! development period, is being suggested. The main idea emphasized in the research is that; the congress tourism creates the most fruitful source of raising the sociai standards by creating fields of employment to the uncontrolled population, this enabling national ambitions of prosperity to be realized through a balanced economiy. Besides these Congress Tourism is the best medicine of unemployment bringing an all year round business possibility at the same time being a good shield for the prevention and denial of terrorism. All these characterize Congress Tourism as the best source for the flow of foreign currency among all the other industrial branches. Therefore; priority is given to study the present possibilities and problems to be able to focus the target congress market of Türkiye. The possible solutions to the problems that have risen are given in this research. In the course of our research, the target market of Türkiye is defined by investigating the present congress centers of Türkiye. According to our research; at present there are, 14 congress halls at Istanbul with a capacity of 18460, at Antalya 7 congress hallswith a capacity of 7150, at Izmir 6 congress halls with a capacity of 61 00, at Ankara 6 congress halls with a capacity of 4650. The question of the useability of the congress tourism potential of Türkiye arises at this point. The immediate solution to this is the formation of a `National Convention Bureau`. This bureau should be on a coordinator basis for ail kinds of research, statistical information, evaluation, distribution of the data, marketing and publishing the congress facilities and possibilities of the cities and the country. On secondary basis being in close contact and cooperation with international organizations such as EFCT and AIPC, as a member city and country this enables the international recognition and `positive lobbying` achieved for the member country through their own advertisements and placements in their international publications and catalogues. This seemes to be the best way of gaining recognition as an internationally acknowledged and accepted city/country by positive international relations brought to us by these internationally accepted organizations. 119
