Istanbul is an important theme in Tu rkish Art. It has been painted many timesthroughout the history. This value of Istanbul for arti sts is not a new concept. Thisenchanting city has inspirited various artists of all times.Istanbul has been painted in miscellaneous sty les by Turkish artists. Thesedifferenti ations are strictly related to changes in social life and arts. Especially thepaintings beginn ing with gravures are accepted as documentaries where Istanbulmeets West. A social environment which stands far away from figure in Tanzima t(New Order) Era, showed its effects in Istanbul paintings. While the paintingsmattering social life were very few, there were many landscape paintings.Figure gained intensity with Osman Hamdi and it entered into Istanbul paintings.So, more and more painting emerged mattering social life rather than landscapepaintings of a long term.
