Özel adların semantik yapısı

Abstract

Özel adlar sorunu analitik felsefenin çekirdeğinde yer alır. Analitik felsefenin ana sorunlarının tümünün kavramsal arkaplanının Russell, Frege ve Mill'in özel adlar üzerine yazdıkları çalışmalarına dayanması bunun en temel göstergesidir. Özel adlarla ilgili sorunların ilki bir özel adın bir anlamının olup olmadığıdır. İkincisi ise adla bir nesneye nasıl gönderim yapabildiğimizdir. Bunların ilkini Klasik Betim Kuramı olarak adlandırılan Frege ve Russell'ın yaklaşımlarıyla bu kuramın Strawson ve Searle'un ortaya koyduğu versiyonları ekseninde tartıştık. İkinci soruyu tartışırken ise Kripke'nin ve Donnellan'ın Nedensel Kuram ve Nedensel-Tarihsel Kuram adı verilen yaklaşımlarını odağa aldık. Burada ele adığımız iki ana sorunun tartışması bize özel adlarda özdeşlik sorunu, betimlerle adların semantik ayrımları, inanç cümlelerinde geçen özel adlar arasındaki yer değiştirebilirlik sorunu, varlık cümleleri ve boş adlar sorunu gibi pek çok sorunu ele almamıza olanak verdi. Biz çalışmamızda bu tartışmalara yer verip sözünü ettiğimiz iki ana soruya, adların pragmatik boyutunu vurgulayan açıklamalar getirmeyi denedik.

The problem of proper names is situated at the core of analytic philosophy. The most fundamental indicator is that conceptual background of all main problems of analytical philosophy grounded on the writings of Russell, Frege and Mill about proper names. The first problem is about whether a proper name has a sense or not. The second problem is about how we can refer to an object in virtue of a name. This thesis discusses the first one within the frame of Frege and Russell's approaches that is called as Classical Description Theory and versions suggested by Strawson and Searle. It focuses on Kripke and Donnellan's approaches called Causal Theory and Causal-Historical Theory while discussing the second problem. The discussion of the two main questions enables further discussion tackling many problems, such as the identity problem, the semantic distinctions of names and descriptions, the problem of substitutivity of proper names in belief statements, the problem of existence statements and empty names. In the thesis, these discussions are included so as to account for the dimention emphasizing names' pragmatics as an answer for aformentioned two main problems.
