Muammer Onat (1926-2009) ve 1950 sonrası Türkiye`de mimarlık

Abstract

Bu tez, Muammer Onat'ın mimarlığını anlamaya yönelik bir çalışma olup 'Onat' özelinde Türk mimarlığının 1950'lerle başlayan dönüşümüne odaklanır. Çalışmada tarihsel bir anlatım metodu izlenmiş ve tarihsel anlatımın 'özne' üzerine kurulan alt metni, Muammer Onat ve onun 50 yıllık periyottaki çalışmaları ile oluşturulmuştur. Çalışmanın strüktürü, `mesleki ortam`, `mesleki hazırlık` ve `mesleki etkinlik`den oluşan üç temel başlık üzerine kurulur ve giriş ile sonuç bölümleri dışındaki üç bölüm bu başlıklar içerisinde gelişir. İlk başlık, Türkiye'deki mimarlık ortamını II. Dünya Savaşı sonrasının tarihsel, kültürel ve politik bağlamı içinde değerlendirir. Amaç, mimarlık ortamını şekillendiren düşünsel, ekonomik, siyasi, vb. parametreleri ele alarak mimarın üzerindeki etkilerinin sorgulanmasını sağlamaktır. İkinci başlık ise, mimarın formasyonunu etkileyen/oluşturan belli başlı olayların/olguların araştırıldığı 'özne'ye dayalı bir bölüm sunar. Muammer Onat özelinde gelişen bölümde, Onat'ın akademide aldığı eğitim ile sonrasında gerçekleştirdiği İtalya Seyahati (bu sırada incelediği INA Casa konutları), Onat'ın mesleki gelişimindeki iki temel süreç olarak öne çıkar. Bu iki başlık, mimari ürünü irdelemek için düşünsel bir altyapı oluşturur ve bu şekilde üçüncü bölümde Onat'ın yapı ve projeleri, hem tarihsel/kültürel bağlam içerisinde, hem de mimarın kariyerindeki gelişim süreci içerisinde ele alınır. Yapı ve projeler betimlenir ve bu betimleyici çerçevede Onat'ın kimliği ve düşünceleriyle ilgili önemli noktalar ortaya konulmaya çalışılır. Mimarın çok kapsamlı mesleki etkinliği içinden üzerinde durulan yapı/projeleri, Onat mimarlığını özgün kılan temel özellikleri vurgulamak üzere seçilmiştir. Bu yapı ve projeler Onat'ın meşgul olduğu konuları ve çağdaş Türk mimarlığına yaptığı katkıları ifade etmektedir. Bu çalışma, mimarın ilişki kurduğu olguların teorik bir çerçevede irdelenmesi ile Onat üzerine yapılmış bir 'biyografi' olarak düşünülebilir. Aynı zamanda, 20. Yüzyılın ikinci yarısında Türkiye'deki mimarlık ortamını Onat'ın mimari pratiğinde izleme şansını verir. Çalışmanın ülkedeki modern mimarlık arşivine katkı sağlaması hedeflenmiştir.

This thesis is a study to understand the architecture of Muammer Onat and focuses on the transformation of Turkish Architecture beginning in 1950s particularly with Onat.The structure of the study is composed of three main titles; 'vocational environment', 'vocational preparation' and 'vocational efficiency' and three section apart from the first and the last continues on those titles. The first one evaluates the arctitecturel environment in Turkey with the historical, cultural and political context of post II. World War. The aim is to handle spiritual, economical and political parameters shaping the architectural environment and question the effects of them on the architect. The second title is a section in which basic events and facts influencing the formation of the architect is held on the basis of the 'the subject'. In the part about Muammer Onat, Onat's academic education and his Italy Journey comes into prominence as two main processes in his Professional development. Those two titles composes a spiritual substructure to understand the outcome and this way Onat's projects and structures are evaluated by both the development of the architect and in cultural and historical context. Structures and projects are described and the basic points regarding Onat's identity and opinions are highlighted. The projects, chosen within the comprehensive vocational activities, were chosen to highlight the basic principles which make Onat's arctitecture unique. Those structures and projects explains the contribution he made to Modern Turkish Architecture and his vocational studies.This study may be regarded as a biography written about him by analyzing the conceps in a therotical way. In this respect, this study enables us to pursue the architectural atmosphere of Turkey in the second part of 20th century with the help of Onat's architecture. The study is aiming to contribute to the archive of modern architecture of the country.
