Abstract

oz Yazmış olduğum tez, Türkiye ile Suriye'nin ikili ilişküerinin gelişimini ve dünyadaki büyük güçler ile olan etkileşimlerini kapsamlı olarak incelemektedir. İki ülke arasında Soğuk Savaş döneminde çok az diplomatik temas iken 1990'lann başına gelindiğinde ilişkilerin nasıl sertleşerek, 1990'lann ortalarına doğru neredeyse savaşın eşiğine gelindiğini ve münasebetlerin gerginleşmesinin ardından, ilişkilerin beş altı yıl gibi çok kısa bir sürede içinde nasıl hızla iyileştiği araştırılmıştır. Ancak iki ülke arasındaki ilişkileri aslında uluslararası sistem, bölgedeki güç dengesi ve dış politika kararlarının alınışında liderlerin rolü gibi bir çok değişken etkilemekte ve bu değişkenlerin neler olduğunu anlamak gerekmektedir. İlişkilerin daha iyi anlaşılması amacıyla tezde iki devletin içinde yer aldığı coğrafya, hem iki ülke açısından hem bölgede bulunan diğer devletler açısından hem de bölgeye ilgi duyan gelişmiş güçler açısından, ayrıntılı olarak incelenmiştir. Temel varsayımız ise iki ülkenin yakınlaşmasının. Soğuk Savaş sonrası değişen dünya sistematiği ve de Ortadoğu bölgesinde meydana gelen hızlı değişim sonucu ortaya çıktığıdır. ABSTRACT This research paper comprehensively examines the progress of relations between Turkey and Syria and their interaction with the powerful states of the world. Eventhough there was just very little diplomatic contact between the two states during the Cold War, we examined how the relations became tensioned in the beginning of 1990's, worsened towards a war in the mid-1990's and in the following few years turned into good relations. However, the two states relations are effected from variables such as the international system, regional balance of powers and the role of the leaders in the foreign policy making process and we intended to understand the effect of these variables in the relations between the two states. To understand the relations better we studied the region, both in the perspective of the two countries and the other states in the region. Our main assumption is that the good relation between Syria and Turkey is an outcome of the post Cold War changes in the international system of both the world and the Middle East. in
