Midhat Paşa`nın Bağdat valiliği

Abstract

oz 27 Şubat 1869'da Bağdat Vilayeti valiliğine tayin edilen Midhat Paşa, yaklaşık üç yıl kaldığı bu görevinde, idarî ve askerî alanlarda yapmış olduğu ıslahatlarla Bağdat'ta emniyet ve asayişi temin etmiştir. Yine eğitim, kültür, sağlık, imar, ziraat, ulaşım ve maliye alanlarında gerçekleştirdiği çalışmalarla Bağdat Vilayetinin gelişmesine büyük katkı sağlamıştır. O, aynı zamanda Bağdat Vilayeti ile İran Devleti arasındaki bazı sorunları da çözüme kavuşturmaya çalışmıştır. Ayrıca onun döneminde, Osmanlı Devleti'nin Basra Körfezi'ndeki zayıflayan hakimiyeti, Kuveyt'in Basra'ya bağlanmasıyla ve Ahsa'ya askerî harekat düzenlenmesiyle yeniden güçlendirilmiştir. Nitekim bu faaliyetlerle İngiltere'nin Basra Körfezi'ndeki ilerlemeleri bir müddet daha geciktirilmiştir. ABSTRACT Midhat Pasha, who was appointed the governor of Baghdad in 27th February, 1869 and continued this post for about three years, sustained the security throughout Baghdad by making reforms on management and military arenas. He also contributed to the development of areas such as education, culture, health care. Improvement of the city, agriculture, transportation and finance. He, at the same time, struggled to find solutions to the problems between Baghdad city and Iran.
