dc.description.abstract- 55 - SU M M A R Y in this study, we have investigated the morphologic features of the ampullary epithelium of the uterine tubes of the mature mouse during the estrous cycle by light and electron microscope. The epithelium of the uterine tubes of the immature mouse has also been studied to show the effects of estradiol benzoate administration. Cilia were observed in the ampullary uterine tube epithelium of the mouse during ali stages of the estrous cycle. Complete cilia loss ör cilia degeneration vasn't indicated in any stage of the cycle. it was interesting that the decrease of the ciliated cells was observed only in the metestrus stage. On the other hand, ciliogenesis was noted only in the diestrus stage. Secretory cells shoved prominent morphological changes in different stages of the estrous cycle. Maximal secretory celi differentiation was observed in the metestrus stage. The diestrus stage also reflected similar secretory activity. Nucleated cytoplasmic projections extrudinginto the lumen and detached projections lying free in thelumen of the uterine tube was seen in ali stages, but itwas more prominent in the diestrus stage. Another inter'esting finding in the estrous cycle was the presence of glycogen particles in the cytoplasma of the ciliated and the secretory cells. They located both- 56 - apical and basal cytoplasm of the cells and were more prominent in the metestrus stage. They also were present in the proestrus stage in lower number. It was observed that ciliated cells of the epithelium of uterine tube in the immature mouse were well developed and rich in cilia. On the other hand, the differentiation in the secretory cells was observed after administration of estrogen. In conclusion, it was observed that in the mature mice uterine tube epithelium showed marked morphological changes in the estrous cycle and these changes were more prominent in the secretory cells than the ciliated cells. The differentiation of the secretory cells showed a gradual increase of the estrus to the metestrus and it reached to maximal at the metestrus and the diestrus stages. Finally, both the findings obtained from the estrous cycle of mature mice and estrogen administered immature mice, led to the conclusion that in this animal species, the differentiation of the secretory cells in the uterine tube depend upon the high blood estrogen level.en_US
