Y This research has been designed as an experimental research model in order to find out the needs of family members confronting with critical health problems of patients in need of serious nursery care, the coping ways and the efficacy of nursery care, itself. Regarding to this project, firstly `Ways of Coping` designed by Lazarus and Folkman (1986) has been performed among 150 family members facing with situational crisis the validity and reliability studies have been completed. Secondly, 25 family members, given care with Betty Neuman's system model and 25 family members given no care at all have been included throughout the study. State Anxiety scores and the functionality of the family have been determined within the first 48 hours of the crisis for both of the groups. Prior to any care that has been performed to the control group, firstly the needs and than the coping methods have been investigated, and a week later the State Anxiety scores have been measured. The experimental group has been evaluated by Betty Neuman's system model; following the exploration of the needs, coping methods have been determined and a week later, State Anxiety scores have been measured. 79Through the process of validity and reliability study of `Ways of Coping (Revised)` `Total Item Score Correlation`, `Kunder Richardson 20 Alpha Coefficient` and `Spearman-Brown Correlation Technique` have been performed for the validity and coequality of the scale. In order to determine the factorial structure validity, `Varirnax Rotation Factor Analysis` has been used. Within the second step of the study, `mean score`, `t-test`, `variance analysis (ANOVA)` and `correlation` techniques have been used. For both of the groups, items as `to know that there exits a hope for recovery`, `to know the course of the illness` and `to know that their questions will bee answered honestly` have been found out to be the most important needs and `cognitive needs` took trie first place. Items as `to pray` and `to talk someone to find out more about the situation` have been found out to be the most prevalently used coping efforts for both of groups and `positive reappraisal` took the first place. For both of the groups, State Anxiety scores have been found to be lower a period of one week but decrease in experimental group has been found to be more significant compared to the control group. Relation between CCFN and family structure has been found to be significant but no significant relation has been found between coping methods and family structure. Proposals are prepared according to this results. 80
