J. M. Coetzee`nin Düşman ve Utanç adlı romanlarında sessizlik, aidiyet eksikliği ve toplumsal cinsiyet

Abstract

Bireylerin konuşma ve yazma gibi edimleri ile aidiyet hisleri ve deneyimleri birbirleriyle yakından ilgilidir. Ataerkil sistem bireylere dayattığı toplumsal cinsiyet pratikleri dolayısıyla sessizlik ve aidiyet konusunda onları etkisi altına almaktadır. Bu tezde dilin şekillendirici etkisi odak noktasına alınarak kişiliğin söylemsel inşası açıklanmış ve bireylerin toplumsal cinsiyet pratiklerinden dolayı yaşamakta oldukları sessizlik, konuşamama, konuşma hakkına sahip olamama ve bununla bağlantılı olarak aidiyet eksikliği deneyimleri J. M. Coetzee'nin Düşman ve Utanç isimli roman karakterleri analiz edilerek anlatılmıştır. Birinci bölümde söylem, ideoloji, toplumsal cinsiyet kimliklerinin inşası, performatiflik, şarkiyatçılık gibi dil ile yakından ilgili olan kavramlar açıklanmış ve bireylerin konuşma edimleriyle aidiyetlerinin birbirleriyle ilişkisi ortaya konmuştur. İkinci ve üçüncü bölümlerde, adı geçen iki romanın karakterleri bu bağlamda ayrıntıyla incelenerek bu deneyimlerin sebepleri, sonuçları ve etkileri ortaya konmuştur. Bu romanlar, cinsel yönelim ve toplumsal cinsiyetin yanı sıra, bireylerin içinde bulundukları ırksal, ekonomik, sınıfsal eşitsizlik biçimlerini de barındırdığı için seçilmiş ve söz konusu bu bağlamın analizi toplumsal cinsiyet konusu odak noktasına alınarak gerçekleştirilmiştir.Anahtar Kelimeler: Dil, Söylem, Sessizlik, Aidiyet Eksikliği, Toplumsal Cinsiyet.

Acts such as speaking and writing and the sense and experience of belonging are closely related to each other. Patriarchal system affects individuals with respect to their experiences of silence and belonging because of the gender roles that it imposes on them. In this thesis, the discursive formation of the subject has been explained with a focus on the shaping power of language and the experiences of silence and speechlessness as well as the lack of belonging caused by gender practices have been depicted through an analysis of the characters of the novels Foe and Disgrace by J. M. Coetzee. The first chapter explains some concepts closely related to language such as discourse, ideology, formation of gender identities, performativity and orientalism while also stating the relation between acts of speaking and belonging. The second and third chapters study in detail the characters of the mentioned novels in this context and demonstrate the causes and effects of these experiences. These novels have been chosen because they include different forms of inequality related with race, economy, class as well as sexual orientation and gender that the individuals experience and suffer and the analysis of the mentioned context has been made with a special focus on gender.Keywords: Language, Discourse, Silence, Lack of Belonging, Gender
