Sosyal teoride mikro-makro dikotomisini aşma çabası olarak Norbert Elias sosyolojisi: Uygarlık süreci

Abstract

Bu çalışmada, sosyal teoride yapıyı ve sistemi merkeze alan makro yaklaşımlar ile toplumsal yapının içerisinde eyleyen aktörleri ve failleri merkeze alan mikro kuramlar arasındaki dikotomiyi aşma çabası olarak Norbert Elias'ın `Uygarlık Süreci` adlı eserinde ortaya koymuş olduğu yaklaşım incelenmiştir.Norbert Elias `Uygarlık Süreci` adlı eserinde modern Batı uygarlığını oluşturan tarihî, kültürel, ekonomik, siyasi süreçleri açıklamaya çalışmanın ötesinde sosyal teoriye içkin bulunan düalizm sorunu çözmeye girişir. Elias, uygarlığın oluşmasını sağlayan tarihî, ekonomik, siyasal ve toplumsal olayları anlatmakla birlikte sosyal teoride makro kuramlar bağlamında toplumsal yapılar olarak bahsedilen kavramın yerine toplumsal süreçlerden söz etmektedir. Elias, ampirik verilerden hareketle toplumsal süreçlerin toplumsal bir gerçek olarak nasıl şekillendiğini anlatmaktadır. Bu nedenle yapı kavramı yerine bireyler arası ilişkiye dayalı `figürasyon` kavramının kullanılmasını önermektedir. Diğer yandan Elias, birey davranışlarında Orta Çağ'dan modern döneme kadar yaşanan değişiklikleri uygarlaşma süreci bağlamında ortaya koymaktadır. Elias, makro kuramlarda temele alınan yapı kavramını ve mikro kuramlarda da kişiliğin özdeneyim karakteristiği kazanmasını `toplumsal gerçek` olarak tanımlar. Böylece toplumsal gerçeğin dinamik, değişen, sürekli dönüşüm halinde olan orijinalitesini ortaya koyar ve sosyal teoriye içkin bulunan düalizm sorununun aşılabileceğine inanır.

This research is going to examine Norbert Elias's efforts for transcending the dichotomy between macro-level or structure-based theories such as structuralism, functionalism, etc., and micro-level or theories that analyze social events phenomenologically, such as symbolic interactionism, phenomenological sociology, etc., which has been reflected in the two-volume study of Norbert Elias, i.e. The Civilizing Process.In his book, Norbert Elias by discussing and describing the processes and economic, cultural, political, and historical events that have led to the formation of modern civilization, attempts to explain how to transcend the dichotomy in social theories. By describing the economic, political, and historical events that have led to the formation of modern civilization, Elias refers to `processes` rather than what is called `structure` in macro-level social theories. Based on empirical data, Elias proves the changing and dynamic nature of social processes as an aspect of social reality. He, therefore, suggests that instead of using the concept of `structure`, the concept of `figuration` that is based on interpersonal communication and dynamic character, should be used. On the other hand, studying the changes in the behavior of individuals (spitting, eating manners etc.) from the Middle Ages to today, Elias rejects static and persistent understanding of the concept of `personality`, as is assumed in the micro-level theories of social science. He rather considers it as a social reality, of a dynamic and ever-changing nature. Elias thus: by proving the changing and dynamic nature of social reality, provides the possibility to transcend the dichotomy in the field of social sciences.
