T In this study, the analyses of Hg, Pb, Cd, Cu, Zn and Fe have been conducted on the soft tissues of different species of demersal fish caught with trawl nets at 30 stations in the Marmara Sea between 28 August 1996 and 9 October 1996. Red Mullet known as an internationally indicator organism, Berlam (Merluccius merluccius), Haddock, Orphan fish, Grey Gurnard, Mussels, Prawn, which are commercially consumed in our cuntry and Benekli Hani with no economic value caught, in the areas having improper environmental conditions were used as demersal fish species throughout the study. The maximum concentrations measured are : Haddock : 0.0817 ug/g Mercury and 0.156 ug/g Lead; Grey Gurnard: 1.81 ug/g Iron, 0.0224 ug/gr Cadmium; Prawn: 2.44 ug/g Copper and 4131 ug/g Zinc. All results have been found to satisfy the metal standards of edible fish in many countries. At the stations; 1-24-25 and 26 which are under the effect of the Istanbul Metropolitan Area and the Black Sea and at the station in the Gulf of Erdek which is regionally rich with mine ores, the quantities of metals have been found to be higher than the other stations. It has been found that Hg increasing with increasing length of Merluccius merluccius, haddock and prawn. Cd is increasing with increasing length of Red Mullet and Serranus Hepatus.en_US
