dc.description.abstract | 48 SUMMARY The effects of conventional, hyperfractionated and accelerated radiotheraphy technics on bone growth of wistar albino rats have been investigated in this study which was performed in the department of medical Radiobiology, Division of Basic Oncology, Istanbul University, Institute of Oncology. In This study 40, 22 day-old wistar albino rats were used, which were the same sex and had just finished their lactational period. They were investigated in four groups, each having ten animals Table 1 Radiation technics applied to each group are as shown in Table 1: Various radiation technics GROWS TOTAL DOSE (Gy) FRACTION NlfBER FRACTION TREATWENT DOSE THE (cGy) (days) I. Group (Conventional) 24 II. Group (Hyperfractionated) 28.8 III.Group (Accelerated) 24 IV. Group (Control)49 Co-60 Alcyon II unit was used for irradiation of these three groups. The animals given no sedative drugs or anesthetics during the irradiation. The irradiation was given in an area which included, the lumbar vertebrae and the both femur bones. In order to follow-up their growth each group had their X-ray films taken first before the radiation and then 8 times with a regular interval of two weeks. Their growth was determined by total Length of the rat length of te lumbar vertebrae and bilateral femur bones. Data were evaluated by Student-T test. When all the parameters, were evaluated; a statistically significant difference of average growth between conventional and other modalities was found at the end of the follow up period. | en_US |
