John Dewey`in demokrasi düşüncesinin felsefi temelleri

Abstract

John Dewey, 20. yüzyılın önemli filozof ve eğitimcilerindendir. Dewey, felsefesinde ağırlıklı olarak değişim ve bunun sonucunda ortaya çıkan gelişim üzerinde durmuştur. Onun ortaya koymuş olduğu fikirleri analiz edildiğinde, hayata dair pek çok değişim ve gelişim görülür. Dewey, gelişimin demokratik sistemlerle mümkün olacağını ifade etmiştir. O, demokrasiyi hem kendi bağlamı içerisinde hem de diğer alanlarla ilişkisi açısında değerlendirerek yeni ve farklı düşünceler ortaya koymuştur.Bu çalışmada, öncelikli olarak demokrasinin anlamı ve tarihsel gelişimi üzerinde duruldu. Dewey'in politikaya bakışı, demokrasinin politik düşüncesinde nerede durduğu ve demokrasinin felsefi temelleri özellikle birey, toplum, bilimsel düşünce ve eğitim üzerine şekillendiği ortaya konuldu. Dewey'in demokrasi düşüncesiyle bağlantılı olan kültür, eşitlik, özgürlük, ahlak gibi yaşama dair temel kavramlarda incelenerek çalışma betimleyici bir tarza ele alındı.Anahtar Kelimeler: John Dewey, demokrasi, insan doğası, bilimsel düşünce, toplum, araştırma, ahlak, eğitim.

John Dewey was one of the most important educators and philosophers of the 20th century. Dewey predominantly focused on the change and the development as a result of that change. When we evaluate the ideas that he put forward to, many changes regarding the life are seen. Dewey states that development could be possible in democratic systems. He regarded democracy more than just a ruling system by bringing new openings to it. He produced new and different ideas by evaluating democracy both in its context and with a perspective of its relations with other fields.In this study, the primary focus is on the meaning of democracy and its historical development. This work puts forward his perspective on politics, where democracy stands in his politic perspective and the fact that the philosophical roots of democracy is shaped especially on individual, society, scientific thinking and education. This work is handled with a descriptive way while the fundamental concepts related to Dewey?s democracy idea and life such as culture, equality, freedom and ethics are examined.Key words: John Dewey, democracy, nature of human being, scientific thinking, society, research, ethic and education
