Abstract
Varroa destructor, which is a member of Varroidae family, is the most dangerous bee parasite causes serious economic losses in beekeeping sector. Attention on biological application biological applications has been given in recent years, due to the residue and resistance problems caused by chemicals used on fight. With this thesis, the investigation of effects of Queen caging method, which is identified as biologic, on oxalic acdi treatment to fight with V.destructor is aimed. Within this study, colonies were divided into 3 groups while one group treated with oxalic acid alone, another one is treated with oxalic acid after caging the queen. The third group had no treatment method. Besides observation and counting of V.destructor falls during and after the experiment, the general conditions of the colonies were also investigated. As a conclusion of the study, average V.destructor falls or the success of the treatment, in colonies which applied queen caging method was 84.8%, whereas this value has remained at 78.8% which applied oxalic acid alone. Average natural mite fall remained at 41.6% in colonies which applied no treatment.Although the queen caging method has been already known among beekeepers, this study is the first study that is predicated method to a scientific base. Concrete datas are obtained intended to the application of the method and numerical comparisons have been made. Moreover, it takes attention that studies take place within international literature belong to spring season , the fact that Turkey is a country which is located in the subtropic zone, let the method to be evaluated with the first autumn season datas.
