dc.description.abstract | The aim of this study was to investigate the 5th grade English teachers?evaluations of the objectives of the 5th grade English course curriculum in terms of thecharacteristics of a well-written objective. To achieve this aim, a questionnaire whichwas developed within the light of the literature on curriculum objectives wasadministered to 86 teachers LQ VWDWH SULPDU/ VFKRROV LQ (VNLúHKLU¶V FLW/ FHQWUH 7Rinterpret the study results, semi structured interviews were conducted with 5 randomlyselected English teachers from the participants. The data was analyzed by means of thedistributions of percentages, mean, and standard deviation. The mean calculationsrevealed that teachers were undecided whether the 1st, 17th, 18th , 24th objectives reflectthe necessary characteristics or not. The standart deviation of these objectives (,9275-1,0839) and the 21st, 22nd objectives (1,0652-1,1068) showed that there is a bigdifference in terms of the distribution of the responses. The percentage calculationsrevealed that teachers thought the 1st, 17th, 18th, 24th objectives not to reflect thenecessary characteristics. The interview results demonstrated that seventeen objectiveswere achieved through different applications in different classrooms as the learningoutcomes of these objectives were not perceived in the same way. Furthermore, teachers did not refer to the curriculum objectives when they prepared their lesson plansand activities, and they prepare them according to the coursebooks. The results of bothsurvey and interview indicated that only the 2nd, 3rd, 11th, 26th objectives were thought toreflect the necessary characteristics. The findings suggested that the other objectivesshould be revised by the curriculum comittee of the Ministry of Education. | en_US |
