Abstract
Thesis) Işık Kerime KESKİN GAZI UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SCIENCES AND TECHNOLOGY August 2000 ABSTRACT In this work, the lattice dynamic of f.c.c. Cu1_xZnx(x = 0.25) alloy was studied using some teoric methods: i) CGW Model ii) Krebs Model iii) the generated Morse Potential iv) many- body interaction potential (MBP) defined by Akgün and Uğur. The phonon frequencies of the alloy along the principal symmetry directions have been computed using these models, seperately. Some elastic properties of the alloy; such as the second- order (Cn,Cn,C44) and third- order (Cm,Cn2,Cm) elastic constants, the thermal expansion coefficient (at), the 3D pressure derivatives of the Bulk modulus and second- order elastic constants ( - dC- and -r^-), the Young's modulus (E), the anisotropy (A ), the Shear modulus (G ) oP have been computed using MBP and the crystal model defined by Akgün. The MBP contains both two- and three- body interactions. The parameters defining the MBP for the examined Cw,_IZwx(x = 0.25) alloy have been calculated following the parametrize method defined by Akgün. Consequently, the obtanied theoretical results were compared with the experimental values of the alloy. The results computed using MBP are in a good agreement with the experimental results. This agreement shows that both the MBP and the parametrize method can be used to study the lattice dynamic of f.c.c. Binary type- II alloys.
