N OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN VITAMIN D LEVELS AND ISCHEMIA MODIFIED ALBUMIN AND THIOL Nuran YOZGATErciyes University Graduate School of Health Sciences, Department of Medical Biochemistry,Supervisor: Prof.Dr.Sabahattin MUHTAROĞLUABSTRACTVitamin D deficiency is increasing all over the world and is now considered as a global epidemic. Medical school students are high-risk groups for vitamin D deficiency because they spend most of the day in closed areas due to the intensity of their curriculum and therefore can not benefit from the beneficial effects of sunlight. The aim of this study is determine the levels of vitamin D levels of medical school students at the end of the summer and winter and to investigate the relationship between vitamin D and oxidative stress parameters Total Antioxidant Capacity (TAS), Total oxidant Capacity (TOS), Ischemied Modified Albumin (IMA) and Thiol.Eighty six healty volunteers studying at Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine (F/M:44/42, Age: 19.39 ± 1.48) were included in the study. Serum 25 (OH) D, TAS, TOS, IMA and thiol levels were measured at the end of the winter (February-March 2017) and summer (September-October 2017) consecutively, and only at the beginning of the study serum PTH, Calcium, Phosphorus and routine biochemical parameters were measured. Also, the participants' gender, age, height, weight, and body mass index were recorded.it was revealed that at the end of the summer, 79.53% of females and 30.95% of males; at the end of the winter 92.36% of females and 61.9% of male had deficiency of vitamin D. When the level of vitamin D was evaluated seasonally in the whole group, the levels were found to be higher at the end of the summer than those at the end of the winter (p=0.001). A negative correlation was viewed between Vitamin D and PTH levels (p=0.007). Also, while at the end of the summer there was a negative correlation between vitamin D and IMA levels (p=0.018), at the end of the winter there was a positive correlation between vitamin D and TAS levels (p=0.001).It has been understood that seasonal changes and the presence in the closed areas for a long time may cause lack of vitamin D and that this has the same and unfavorable effect on the antioxidant system. Therefore, it can be recommended that people on these conditions to have vitamin D supplement.Key Words: Vitamin D, Oxidative Stress, Ischemia Modified Albumin, Thiol.en_US
